Currently Assistant Professor (Media and Communications) at the Humanities Department at Hokusei Gakuen University (Sapporo City, Japan).
Previously I was a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Behavioral Science, Hokkaido University, Japan, and member of Dr. Masaki Yuki’s Culture, Social Ecology, and Psychology Lab. I research about cultural differences in consumer behavior on social media. So far I’ve mainly focussed on cultural differences between the US and Japan in privacy concern, self-promotion, and conflict avoidance on Facebook. These topics were the focus of my PhD dissertation, accepted in February 2016.
My research doesn’t stop at describing cultural differences. I also seek to uncover why those cultural differences exist. And that’s the focus of my current research project, surveying Facebook users from 40 countries about their behavior on the site.
